I’m an artist and creative technologist. I write about generative art, code, creativity and other interconnected topics. You can expect a diary on Fridays sharing the things I’ve been working on. Thanks for joining me here. 💖
Hello!
This week’s been a little frantic as I’ve had a few appointments out of the house and I’m off to a festival next week, so there is a lot I’m trying to get done before I go! There will be no newsletter from me next week as I’ll be in a field!
I’ve been tying up the commission I’ve been working on, experimenting with a few things (some more successfully than others) and making some new handwriting plots. I also had a meeting about another commission that will be very exciting for me if it comes together!
Things I’ve done this week
Glitch commission
This is almost finished and this week I spent time tidying up the code.
I keep things as tidy as possible as I work, but I do enjoy changing variables directly where they’re being used, so that I can quickly explore the effects of different settings. Then later I go back and build out the system to manage the options to produce varied outputs. I completed that this week.
I’ve also been adding more features, like these jittery paths.
I’ve still got a couple more ideas to built out before shipping this, but I love where this has ended up! NFT’s of the piece are going to be given as a gift to purchasers of the dGen1 phone, and I hope they like it!
Watercolour Plotting
As I mentioned last week, I tried out the wet brush method with my “existence” watercolour painting. Honestly, I don’t love the way this one turned out, but if nothing ever turned out less than ideal then I think that would be a sign that not enough experimenting is happening.
Here it is with just the painting (left), and then with a wet brush pulled through (right)
Then I also added some very diluted pink and yellow

Handwritten Plotting
I’m working on producing some pen plotted handwriting works. When I have around 10 of these, I will release them on my shop.
These always sold out quickly in the past so my plan is to create a link that I share with you via this newsletter and they’ll be available there exclusively for a week. Then any that haven’t sold out at the end of the week will be moved to my regular shop page!
There are also timelapses for these on the way, but I haven’t edited them yet!
One last thing!
It may or may not materialise so no details yet but here’s something I've been testing for the thing I had a meeting about!
Things I’ve enjoyed this week
I went to see the opening of Forms in Flux, with work by Anthony Hiley-Mann and Florian Zumbrunn, which was incredible to see and also super nice to hang out with the generative art crowd again.
Erik Swahn’s ‘dusty’ studies.
This animated series that reminds me of ascii art, graphic design and the game of life, by Andrew Strauss.
That’s all, thanks again for joining me!
I’ll leave you with this shot of Anthony Hiley-Mann’s Materialistic on display, and I’ll see you here next week.

I love seeing generative art.
When I have space for a studio, I wanna hook up a raspberry pi or other micro-computer to a CRT and just have it play my own generative art 24/7. I can keep dreaming for a while I guess…
