Chaos in the medium | Generative art diary
New article, watercolour plotting, handwriting prints (coming soon)
I write about generative art, code, creativity and other interconnected topics. You can expect a diary every Friday sharing what I’ve been working on, some things I’ve found interesting, and a link to a new article every other week. Thanks for joining me here. 💖
Hello!
Lots of this week was spent plotting with watercolour and writing about plotting with watercolour. I also had two days at my day job (usually it’s just one) so art days were reduced.
I am really enjoying writing articles and sharing my process on a defined schedule. It feels worthwhile but it’s also definitely cutting down the time I have for other artmaking. I am not sure how to create more balance here. Ideally I will get better at writing articles more quickly but, I mean, last year it would take me weeks to produce one and now it’s about 2-3 days work, so I have already streamlined a lot.
New article: Watercolour plotting
Over the past few weeks, I've been experimenting with painting in watercolours using my AxiDraw plotter. This article is a scrapbook of things I’ve been trying, the results I’ve created and the mistakes I’ve made (and continue to make).
Things I worked on this week
I’ve been doing some research into options for producing prints. I’ve always been happy with prints from The Print Space, and they now have a drop shipping service where prints are delivered digitally signed and come with a certificate of authenticity. They also have locations in UK/EU/USA so expensive shipping is avoided. I’m working on creating a series of handwriting prints which will be available soon!
And here are a few previews of my watercolour plotting article:

Plans for the upcoming week(s)
It’s a short week for me next week as I’m off on holiday on Thursday!
My plan is to send you:
Fri 21st June - Short newsletter.
Fri 28th June - Link to a new article about plotting with multiple pens
Fri 5th July - Newsletter about the generative art conference in Berlin!
But it’s all a bit “subject to change”.
Before I go away I want to:
🖋️ Write my next article about plotting with multiple pens
🖼️ Create a selection of handwriting artwork prints
That’s it, thanks again for joining me here!
I’ll leave you with a photograph of my new friend emerging (I’m hoping it unfurls fully before I go away!)
